Jude Bellingham's extra-time finish sent England into the World Cup semi-finals, completing a dramatic 2-1 comeback over Norway in Miami after a night shaped by two major VAR controversies.

Schjelderup puts Norway ahead

Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway a deserved 36th-minute lead, driving in from the left and scoring from a difficult angle. England had more of the ball early, but Norway's compact resistance limited their threat before the breakthrough.

Bellingham levelled in first-half stoppage time after Anthony Gordon's pass, although the build-up became the first flashpoint. Norway argued that Ørjan Nyland's clearance had struck a cable camera above the pitch; FIFA checked ball-sensor data and said no additional contact had been detected. Harry Kane then had a goal ruled out for offside before the interval.

Norway see Heggem's strike overturned

Norway thought they had restored their lead in the 55th minute when Torbjørn Heggem scored from a corner. Referee Clément Turpin initially allowed it, then overturned the goal after a VAR review found Erling Haaland had pushed Elliot Anderson before the set piece was taken.

The decision hinged on the World Cup's new VAR provision covering an attacking foul immediately before a restart. Norway continued to press, with Kristoffer Ajer heading against the bar from a corner in the 75th minute, while Bukayo Saka's low delivery was cleared away from Eberechi Eze and Kane late on.

Bellingham sends England through

Bellingham settled the Norway-England game in the 93rd minute. Nyland saved Kane's header and then Morgan Rogers' effort, but could not hold the second stop as Bellingham converted the rebound from close range.

Turpin later rescinded an England penalty after reviewing Djed Spence's fall. England's 52% possession edge was narrow, but their eight shots on target to Norway's four showed the difference in clear attempts; Norway's seven corners to England's four kept the pressure on until the end.

England now await Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals. Norway, who had eliminated Brazil, leave the tournament after a quarter-final defined as much by disputed calls as Bellingham's decisive intervention.
