Bukayo Saka’s 87th-minute penalty halted France’s extraordinary surge and sent England to World Cup bronze after a 6-4 France-England match in Miami. Saka completed his hat-trick before Jude Bellingham struck in the final minute of normal time to settle a ten-goal third-place final.
England demolishes France before the break
Declan Rice set the tone in the third minute, winning possession after a French defensive error and scoring from 20 metres. He then supplied the corner from which Ezri Konsa headed England two ahead in the 18th minute.
Saka had already had a goal ruled out for offside when England broke France apart again. He converted after Marcus Rashford’s effort was saved in the 37th minute, then met Eberechi Eze’s pass to make it 4-0 in first-half stoppage time.
Mbappé drives France’s fierce comeback
Kylian Mbappé pulled one back three minutes after the restart, and his pass released Bradley Barcola for France’s second in the 54th minute. Mbappé then finished a move involving Michael Olise in the 66th minute to cut the deficit to one.
